City by the Bay

Geelong is a bustling centre with many attractions for the visitor. Swimming beaches and beachside cafes, sophisticated restaurants and clubs, fashion and bargain shopping, and a revitalised waterfront make this an exciting city with something for everyone. Geelong hosts a number of festivals and events; highlights include the Australia Day Weekend sailing regatta and the International Airshow, held at Avalon airport every second year.

Major sporting events attract many visitors to Geelong. See football, basketball and baseball matches, as well as surfing competitions at local beaches and a major rowing carnival on the Barwon River. Those looking for culture will find a very impressive collection at the Geelong Art Gallery. The Performing Arts Centre hosts theatre and music, while the acclaimed National Wool Museum explores the area’s historically most important farming industry.

If you enjoy a leisurely walk, amble out our back gate and you are just 200 metres from the western section of the Corio Bay Boardwalk which stretches from Rippleside Park to Limeburners Point. After a ten minute stroll around the boardwalk you will arrive at the waterfront precinct - the hub of Geelong's cultural and social life and the site of many fine wining and dining options and leisure activities. You will marvel at the artistry of the iconic bollards which are dotted around the bay telling the story of Geelong's history.

Geelong is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, one of the world’s most spectacular drives. From Geelong the driver passes world famous surf spots like Jan Juc and Bells Beach, and then enjoys breathtaking views over the cliffs, sand and sparkling waters of this magnificent coastline. Picturesque towns break the drive, and there are large areas of eucalyptus rainforest in the Otway National Park.

The Bellarine Peninsula’s rolling hinterland is an important farming region, home to wineries and growers of fine produce. Nearby Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove are very popular holiday towns with a relaxed feel and renowned surf breaks as well as sheltered beaches.
